North Huntsville Community Art Installation - Blue Springs Road Huntsville, Al

 

A simple, collaborative, and multicolored design on the east-facing retaining walls located on Blue Springs Road in North Huntsville, Al, and just north of Richard Showers Center. The retaining walls are a total of 16 short walls with the highest length being an estimated of 60” inches and the widest estimated 250’ ft.  The design, created by teaching artists Jessica Nunno and myself,  is comprised of a combination of geometric and organic shapes with hues of blue in the background area to depict Blue Springs. By using a formulaic paint-by-numbers arrangement, individuals at every artistic level came together as a community to leave their colorful mark in Huntsville, Alabama.

 

With this community art installation, our goals involved gathering the community to promote interaction, engaging youth in the community, and transforming neighborhood areas. This community art installation also empowered individuals and facilitated healing in so many ethical ways.

 

This memorable installation was commissioned by Arts Huntsville and took about a hundred volunteers to carry out!
